Towns and cities inside the circle

Scroll here to list the places inside the selected circle.

Lists places with at least 15,000 residents from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0), measured to each place’s reference point. Population figures come from various census years and boundary definitions, so treat them as indicative. Districts are parts of a larger city that are listed separately.

How to find the ZIP codes in a radius

  1. Choose the center. Type a ZIP code, address, or place in Find a place and select the result. You can also paste coordinates or click the map.
  2. Set the distance. Enter the radius in miles or kilometers, or pick a preset. The circle shows the area as the crow flies.
  3. Read the list. Scroll to ZIP codes inside the circle. Each row shows the ZIP, its place name and state, its county, and the distance and direction from the center. Sort by distance, ZIP, or county, and select a ZIP to zoom to it.
  4. Take it with you. Copy ZIP list copies the codes separated by commas, ready to paste into an ad platform, CRM, or spreadsheet. Download CSV saves every column.

Add more circles to cover several stores or depots; the list follows the selected circle. The counties summary under the list shows which counties the radius reaches and how many of their ZIP codes fall inside.

What a ZIP code radius is used for

  • Local advertising. Ad platforms and direct mail services accept ZIP code lists. A radius around a store turns into a ZIP list in one step.
  • Delivery and service areas. Publish the ZIP codes you serve, or check whether a customer’s ZIP is inside your delivery radius.
  • Sales territories and franchise areas. Draw a circle around each location and export each ZIP list to assign leads by territory.
  • Recruiting and relocation. List the ZIP codes within commuting distance of a workplace for job ads or a home search.

How many ZIP codes are within 5, 10, 25, and 50 miles?

The number of ZIP codes in a circle depends far more on population density than on the radius. Within 10 miles, Washington, D.C. has 399 ZIP codes and Austin has 60. Counts below are measured from each city’s central reference point.

ZIP code centers versus ZIP code boundaries

The US Postal Service defines ZIP codes as sets of delivery routes, not as areas with official borders. The Census Bureau publishes approximate areas called ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs), and most ZIP data sets, including the one used here, give each ZIP a single center point. That makes a radius search fast and predictable, but it has three consequences:

  • Edges are approximate. A ZIP is in or out based on its center. In cities, where ZIP codes are small, this matters little. In rural areas a single ZIP can cover hundreds of square miles, so check the ZIP codes near the edge.
  • Some ZIPs have no area. PO box ZIPs and unique ZIPs for large organizations, universities, or government buildings are listed at the location they serve. Remove them if you only want residential delivery areas.
  • ZIP codes cross county and city lines. The county shown is the main county for the ZIP. A ZIP’s place name is its postal city, which may differ from the town people live in.

For drive-time or road-based service areas, use a routing tool; a radius shows straight-line distance. Related: find cities within a radius · 10 mile radius map · 25 mile radius map

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

How do I find all ZIP codes within a radius?

Search an address or ZIP code, set the radius in miles or kilometers, and scroll to ZIP codes inside the circle below the map. The list updates as you move or resize the circle. Copy ZIP list puts every code on your clipboard, separated by commas; Download CSV adds place, state, county, coordinates, and distance.

Can I search by ZIP code?

Yes. Type a five-digit ZIP (or ZIP+4) in Find a place. US ZIP codes are found instantly from the built-in list and the circle is centered on that ZIP’s center point.

Why is a ZIP code I expected missing, or only partly inside?

ZIP codes are mail delivery areas, not points. The tool lists a ZIP when its center point is inside the circle. A large rural ZIP can reach into the circle while its center lies outside, and an edge ZIP can be listed although part of it is outside. Add a mile or two to the radius if you need every ZIP that touches the area.

Can I see which counties are inside a radius?

Yes. Under the ZIP list, open the counties summary to see every county that has a ZIP code center inside the circle, with the number of ZIP codes in each. It is a quick guide to the counties a radius reaches; check official boundaries for anything legal or administrative.

What is the largest radius I can list ZIP codes for?

ZIP codes are listed for circles up to 500 km (about 310 miles), which already covers several states and thousands of ZIP codes.

Does it work outside the United States?

The ZIP list covers the 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Military APO and FPO codes are not included because they have no fixed location. Elsewhere you can still search postal codes to center the map and list the towns and cities inside the circle.
